Cybercrime Magazine reports that cybercrime damages are predicted to hit $6 trillion annually by 2021. With entire industries moving to remote working models, due to COVID 19, there has been a significant increase in in teleworking security vulnerabilities and exploitation. Whether cybercriminals gain access to your business, courtesy of an employee who opens a questionable email attachment or through digital theft or inferior password management, cybercrime can be devastating, and sometimes terminal, for an organization.

Cyberattack horror stories are everywhere. Consider Capital One, a financial institution that was victim to cybercrime just last year when an individual gained unauthorized access to their data. The outcome of this security breach? 100 million Americans were affected by having their credit card applications and data, including credit scores, bank account numbers and social security numbers, stolen. While this is an extreme example involving a mammoth organization, the takeaway is that cyberattacks can be traumatic to businesses large and small. Cybersecurity simply cannot be neglected. We know you feel cybersecurity is the least of your problems, but your customers are trusting you to protect their data.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which is a timely reminder to take a hard look at whether your cybersecurity measures are on solid ground. How cyber safe is your business? Would your organization be protected and survive in the event of a security breach? Does your company embrace a cybersecurity culture? How can you better minimize the risks of a cyberattack? Malware protection is a great first step.

Malware protection

Malware refers to malicious soft ware. Spyware, viruses, ransomware, Trojan horses, adware — all fall under the malware umbrella. These chaos-inducing programs really do live up to the malicious intent of their namesake.

Spyware can steal valuable information like account numbers and passwords. Viruses, not unlike human viruses, are designed to infect and spread from host (computer) to host (computer). Ransomware, as its name suggests, holds your files hostage until a ransom is paid. Trojan horses were designed to take control of your computer — giving the cybercriminal the ability to damage or steal at will. Adware, the least malicious malware of the lot, is still a nuisance as it spams the computer with unwanted advertisements.

Once upon a time, a user would install an antivirus product on their computer and never look back. This is no longer the case. These antiquated antivirus solutions simply cannot keep up with the ever-growing onslaught of new technological threats.

Compass Computing Group has been protecting tech companies in Portland from malware for over 25 years. Our Webroot SecureAnywhere product offers a revolutionary approach to malware protection by bringing together innovative file pattern and predictive behavior recognition technology to stop known threats and prevent unknown zero-day attacks more effectively. Webroot offers complete protection for all your devices without slowing you down.

Endpoint Security

Endpoint security is the process of securing network endpoints. These endpoints are end user devices such as laptops, smartphones, tablets or desktop PCs. In an increasingly common Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) teleworking world, having effective protection at these vulnerable points of entry is more important than ever.

Ponemon Institute, a research facility focused on privacy, data and information security, reports that endpoint security breaches are significantly on the rise. In their recent survey of 671 information technology security professionals, 68% reported that the frequency of attacks has increased in the past year. The report also forecasts that these attacks are expected to more than double in the coming year.

Enter SentinelOne — to the rescue. The only platform specifically designed for the remote workforce, SentinelOne offers unified next-generation endpoint security by enabling clients to prevent, detect and rapidly eliminate threats and gain visibility into the endpoint environment with real-time forensics. While this product is normally only available to enterprise-sized companies, Compass Computing Group is pleased to be able to deliver this critical protection to our clients of all sizes. We are so confident in our ability to deliver this protection that this coverage includes warranty compensation of $1,000/endpoint (up to $1 million total) to recover files in the event of an undetected ransomware attack. Cyberattacks are happening. They are a serious problem that requires a serious solution. SentinelOne is that solution.

Cybersecurity and programming is an ever-evolving and complex field, and proper advanced security management is best left to professionals. The peace of mind that comes along with knowing your organization won’t be the next Capital One is priceless. By redirecting our clients’ web traffic through a cloud-based, DNS security solution, we can finely tune and enforce web access policies, ensure regulatory compliance and stop 88% of threats at the network’s edge — before they ever hit your network or endpoints. By saving your organization the intense cost and dreaded downtime that comes along with cyberattacks, we’re enabling you to focus on business growth.
